Step by step.
- Find Entity accuracy on the Overview, next to visibility. Read the two numbers separately: one says how often you are named, the other says how often you are named as what you are now.
- On the Accuracy tab, open the understanding breakdown. Each answer that named you is placed in one of your categories, current or legacy.
- Read the legacy answers. Each is quoted with the sources the engine cited. The source is where the old identity comes from.
- If a category is missing or wrong, say so in Your Context. The categories are yours, and the next run uses the corrected list.
What happens next. Legacy answers usually trace to a page that still describes the old business. Those pages show up as outdated claims, with the fix on each.
Being named and being understood are two different results. An engine can name you in a third of its answers and describe you, every time, as the business you were three years ago. The buyer who reads that answer is looking for something you no longer sell, and the buyer who wants what you sell now never hears your name in that context.
So every answer that names you is also placed in a category. The categories are yours, confirmed at intake: the current ones, and any legacy ones you left behind. The answer is judged from its own words, never from what we already know about you. Entity accuracy is the share of those answers that describe you in a current category.
It sits next to visibility, not inside it. Visibility says how often you are in the answer. Entity accuracy says whether the answer is about the right business.
What the screen is telling you.
- Your categories come from intake: the ways a business like yours can be described, marked current (what you do now) or legacy (what you did before). A business that never changed direction usually has one current category and no legacy ones.
- Each answer is placed from its own words only. What we know about you is not used to decide how the engine described you, so a vague answer is not given the benefit of the doubt.
- Entity accuracy is answers in a current category out of all answers that name you. Answers that do not name you are not in it at all. That is what visibility measures.
- The two numbers can move in opposite directions. More mentions in the legacy category raises visibility and lowers entity accuracy, and that is not progress.
People ask.
- Why is this separate from the accuracy audit?
- The audit checks facts: an address, a service, a price. Entity accuracy checks the whole description: whether the engine thinks you are the kind of business you are now. An answer can get every fact right and still put you in the category you left.
- What counts as a current category?
- The ones you confirmed at intake as what you do now. They are written in the words a buyer would use, not in your internal product names, because that is how the engines describe businesses.
- My business never changed. Does this matter to me?
- Less, but it still catches a common problem: an engine that files you under a broader or a neighbouring category than the one your buyers search in. That shows up here as answers outside your current category.
